/ABOUT ME

My name is Kalina Tran. I'm Vietnamese-American, born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Growing up, I found satisfaction in solving problems, and solace in attention to detail. In high school I interned in accounting for my interest in numbers and rules, working with a small team under time constraints. Throughout, I started a car detailing business which helped me develop skills for organization, precision, and time-management.

These skills laid the foundation for my journey in computer science and continue to drive my passion for learning and building in tech.

Developed a niche management platform for cassette tape collectors that bridges the gap between physical media and digital streaming. This project explores the integration of multiple third-party APIs (Discogs, Spotify, and OpenAI) within a modern full-stack architecture to provide a seamless cataloging and listening experience.

Developed a recipe management website that is able to handle user logins and recipe additions to the site; alongside search and filter capabilities. MVC architecture with HTML5, CSS3, Django, and SQLite is used to showcase efficiency in responsive design and database modeling and querying.

/SNAKE_GAME

Built a snake game that applies learned concepts on MVC architecture, client-server communication, and database modeling + connection in C#. Playable through a fun and visually appearing game interface, it allows multiple players to connect locally and compete to get the longest snake (highest score).

As part of a volunteer position, I am currently designing and developing a revamped website for a non-profit called the Somalia Community Self-Management Center. In this role, I have been presented their issues with SEO, low traffic for donations, and other changes they want to implement. As the sole developer, this position has given me many opportunities to learn, and lots of creative freedom.

Implemented a spreadsheet web application that uses detailed formula rules and complex dependency graphs to allow calculations involving both arithmetic expressions and expressions between cells, in addition to save and load features. IN thi project, I went the extra mile to develop the option of custom file save names, and intentionally designed the user interface and layout for ease of use.
